I-CORD LETTERS BY EMMA WRIGHT

With the Christmas season and of course the beginning of 2017 upon us, this i-cord letter tutorial is perfect for any last minute party decoration makes! All you need is 1 ball of erika knight british blue wool, 1 ball of gold twileys of stamford, pipe cleaners, set of 3, 4mm double pointed needles and a couple of hours in the afternoon to spare. I really hope you enjoy my fun little tutorial... Let's get started!

YOU WILL NEED

1 ball of erika knight british blue wool, 1 ball of gold twileys of stamford, pipe cleaners, set of 3, 4mm double pointed needles

START

Using 4mm (US 6) double pointed needles and A, cast on 6sts.

Divide these 6 sts over 2 needles. (3sts per needle)

Work each letter as folls:

‘Y’

Cut a 19cm length of pipe cleaner.

Use i-cord method (working in rounds) around pipe cleaners, knit to end of pipe cleaner and until work measures 7cm from cast on edge. Join in B, holding A and B together continue to knit around pipe cleaner until work measures approx. 20cm.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail and pull tight through 6sts.

Fasten off.

Cut a 12cm length of pipe cleaner.

Using 4mm needles and holding A and B together cast on 6 sts.

Using i-cord method (working in rounds) around pipe cleaners, knit to end of pipe cleaner and until work measures 10cm from cast on edge.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail and pull tight through 6sts.

Use extra 2cm of pipe cleaner left to wrap around 20cm length of knitting (11cm up from cast on edge) to form Y shape.

Cut a long length of A and B together. To cover exposed pipe cleaner, wrap around the join.

‘A’

Cut a 34cm length of pipe cleaner and fold in half.

Using i-cord method (working in rounds) around pipe cleaners, knit to end of pipe clear and until work measures 10cm from cast on edge. Join in D, holding A and B together continue to knit around pipe cleaner until work measures 31cm.

Continue in A only, knit until work measures 36cm.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail and pull tight through 6sts.

Cut a 8cm length of pipe cleaner.

Using 4mm needles and holding A and B together cast on 6 sts.

Using i-cord method (working in rounds) around pipe cleaners, knit until work measures 4cm from cast on edge and using 2cm of the pipe cleaner at each end of knitting to join to main part of the letter. Cut a long length of A and B together to cover exposed pipe cleaner wrap around each join.

'Y'

Work as for Y above, have fun joining B in a different place and mix things up a bit!
